Over the past ten years, Honesdale has been witness to commercial growth as major chains decide to set-up-shop in the county seat. Solicited by The Home Depot, Leeward assisted in the bid preparation process by providing geotechnical test pits for the area of the possible store. Consequently, bids were accepted in 2005 with the awarding going to R.L. Spencer from Manilus, NY who named Leeward Construction the site work subcontractor.

Perched atop Old Willow Avenue, the project location would pose various obstacles to the assigned teams; predominately stabilizing the embankment. Crews excavated an estimated 150,000 cubic yards of earth to establish the proper grade, the sweeping driveway and terraced hillside. Complementing this was the placement of more than 10,000 ton of asphalt to shape the roadway and parking areas.

Leeward's contract also included multiple tasks for the masons. Requiring a large amount of attention, Leeward was responsible for excavating and pouring the building's foundations. Additionally, several hundred feet of concrete curb and thousands of square feet of sidewalks were poured along the driveway and parking zones.

Further work commissioned by the agreement included the installation of more than 5,000 feet of storm, sanitary and water pipe. Designed to enhance the natural surroundings, the landscaping incorporated locally quarried stone to forge a retaining wall. Meanwhile, Route 6 required widening and reconfiguring to improve traffic flow; a project calling for paving work and the utilization of subcontractors to place signs and signals.

Completed in late October, the site work was finished ahead of schedule, allowing the store to open prior to the owner's anticipated date
