In the spring of 2005, Leeward began the Salem project. Notice to Proceed was issued on this project in April, 2005. This is a 142' 9" span bridge in the center of Carbondale, Pennsylvania. It was complicated by the demolition of three buildings, two of which were two story buildings set next to the river that were attached to an existing building. This demolition was accomplished on time, without any debris entering the stream, and without any damage to the adjacent building. The project included substantial sheet piling in both sides of the stream, concrete wing walls, abutments, and a concrete sidewalk with hand railing on the bridge deck itself. It also consisted of several hundred feet of storm drainage piping, over twenty precast inlets, several hundred feet of concrete curbing and sidewalks, and several thousand ton of bituminous material, line striping, signage, etc.
