As an asphalt roller operator, your duties are to operate paving equipment, such as motorized rollers, to create a paved road or another surface for a construction or repair project. You work with many different pieces of machinery that are designed to apply different surface materials. Often, your duties include using other equipment to lay down gravel and stone or specialized tools that ensure the ground is compacted and level before applying asphalt or other materials. Your responsibilities also include performing routine maintenance and repair of your equipment. Operating heavy rolling and paving machinery is complicated work, so you need to have an eye for detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to interpret blueprints and other schematics.
