A screed operator is responsible for the smooth ride asphalt pavement is known for. Operating the free-floating screed, these operators level the hot asphalt to the right thickness and evenness to produce the best roads.
Responsibilities
Responsible for operating the screed from a standing position on a platform attached to the paver or walking alongside
Uses the screed to lay asphalt material to project specifications including but not limited to depth, width, and grade. When not operating the screed, the operator performs laborer duties
Must be able to detect and correct defects in surfaces, seams and edges
Responsible for having a thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, mix designs, job specifications, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving
Must perform general laborer duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials
Able to lift 50 pounds. Able to walk moderate distances to reach work area.
Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
Must have good hand-eye coordination, quick reaction times.
Required to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and safety-toed boots.
Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
A sound understanding of pertinent safety guidelines.
Capacity to provide and follow direction.
Sharp decision-making skills, particularly when under pressure.
Safe operation of hand tools.
Ability to work extended hours, as required including night work and Saturdays.
Travel to jobsites within 70 miles of main office in Honesdale, PA.
Pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.
Satisfactory results of pre-employment background check results
Valid driver’s license with clean driving record is preferred
Provide valid US work authorization documents for E-Verify
