Paving Screed Operator/Laborer 

Description

A screed operator is responsible for the smooth ride asphalt pavement is known for. Operating the free-floating screed, these operators level the hot asphalt to the right thickness and evenness to produce the best roads.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for operating the screed from a standing position on a platform attached to the paver or walking alongside
  • Uses the screed to lay asphalt material to project specifications including but not limited to depth, width, and grade. When not operating the screed, the operator performs laborer duties
  • Must be able to detect and correct defects in surfaces, seams and edges
  • Responsible for having a thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, mix designs, job specifications, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving
  • Must perform general laborer duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials
  • Able to lift 50 pounds. Able to walk moderate distances to reach work area.
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
  • Must have good hand-eye coordination, quick reaction times.
  • Required to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and safety-toed boots.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • A sound understanding of pertinent safety guidelines.
  • Capacity to provide and follow direction.
  • Sharp decision-making skills, particularly when under pressure.
  • Safe operation of hand tools.
  • Ability to work extended hours, as required including night work and Saturdays.
  • Travel to jobsites within 70 miles of main office in Honesdale, PA.
  • Pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.
  • Satisfactory results of pre-employment background check results
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record is preferred
  • Provide valid US work authorization documents for E-Verify
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
