Located in Lebanon Township, Wayne County, the Lower Woods Pond project constructed by Leeward Construction for the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission consisted of the new construction and renovations to the existing dam infrastructure. Work included the removal of the existing low-level outlet and conduit, construction of a new 1,700 CY cast-in-place concrete Labyrinth Spillway, and low-level outlet works.
To build the new Labyrinth Spillway and low-level outlet works, a temporary earthen diversion dike had to be constructed to allow for the work area to be dewatered. This included the installation of a 30” diameter bypass pipe to allow normal flows out of the pond while work was completed. Once work was completed, the temporary earthen dike was removed to allow Lower Woods Pond to fill behind the new Labyrinth Spillway and low-level outlet works.
The cast-in-place concrete Labyrinth Spillway and low-level outlet works consisted of 1,700 CY of concrete which had a custom designed mix specifically for the project. A mixture of custom steel formwork, job built and EFCO formwork was used to form the concrete in each placement. We are especially thankful to our hardworking and talented team, as well as our subcontractors and suppliers who made this project happen, providing a safe and sustainable recreation area and fishing area for generations to come.
