Rehabilitation and improvement of STATE ROUTE 3021, SECTION 271, Stafford Meadow Bridge
Leeward Construction, Inc. was brought on to complete rehabilitation and improvement for the Stafford Meadow Bridge. The bridge’s location on State Route 3021 made this project complex. To deliver the finest rehabilitation to the stretch of road and its structures, Leeward Construction, Inc. was tasked with handling paving, construction, and traffic management.
At its core, the project consisted of replacing an existing concrete slab bridge along state route 3021. Leeward Construction, Inc. replaced the structure with a single span, pre-stressed plank beam bridge over Stafford Meadow Brook. The team also installed full-depth bituminous paving at the bridge approach. During construction, the old bridge was progressively removed, and a temporary bridge was put in its place.
Additional, necessary improvements at Stafford Meadow Bridge required Leeward Construction, Inc. to excavate sections of the road for further installations. The team set up temporary excavation support and protection to prep the site. From there, Leeward Construction, Inc. set out with the new improvements. For the new drainage system, Leeward Construction, Inc. was tasked with performing sewer relocation. New concrete sidewalks, curbs, and steps were also installed for pedestrian foot traffic. E&S control measures were implemented to ensure that the rehabilitation project will be able to withstand wear for the foreseeable future.
To reduce the back up and hazards of motor traffic during the construction period, Leeward Construction, Inc. implemented temporary traffic control for the section of state route 3021 they occupied for duration of the project. ADA ramps were provided as well as new pavement markings and signage for the bridge and the surrounding stretch of road.
By the time Leeward Construction, Inc. completed the Stafford Meadow Bridge rehabilitation project, the team completed construction at a total length of 298.00 ft (0.057 mi.).
