Rebuilding the Runway for Safer Skies

At the Wilkes-Barre/Wyoming Valley Airport, Leeward Construction led the full rehabilitation of Runway 7/25, delivering critical infrastructure upgrades for aviation safety. The project included full-depth reclamation of 30,000 square yards of existing asphalt, stabilized with over 51,000 gallons of emulsion additive.

Precise grading of the reclaimed surface was performed using GPS-controlled equipment, ensuring tight tolerances across the entire runway. Leeward crews then placed 6,800 tons of FAA-specified asphalt mix using GPS-guided paving techniques to meet strict elevation and slope requirements. The result is a durable, smooth runway surface built to support safe operations for years to come.
